A spooky 3D speed-running roguelite made in 10 days for VimJam 5

  • Game created by myself. (Nightfall)
  • Music created by my amazing wife.
  • Some monster designs created by my 2 year-old.
  • Special shoutouts to Kenney, Febucci and Flatkit for their amazing assets.

Lore Dump:

In S.C.A.R.E. you take on the role of a grave-robber with an ever-looming debt. It's up to you to venture into the Crypts, gathering up as much loot and treasures as you possibly can. Don't ever forget "Memento Mori" and you should be just fine.

You have 10 weeks of debt to pay off and you only work weekends which means you only have 3 days to make up your debt. While digging deeper into the Crypts you'll find treasures which contain powerups you can purchase with the fine folks over at S.C.A.R.E. Continue to grow your skillset and become the best graverobber you can be.

Controls & How-To-Play:

The game was build for mouse and keyboard. You can adjust the mouse sensitivity by pausing and going to settings.

Controller will work but the controls are not displayed an aiming is a little rough; I don't recommend it.

The signs at the beginning of the level should have all of the information, hopefully.

This seems like a good game with a lot of love put into it. The sad thing is I cannot play much due to a visual bug being too much of a problem.

I have a dual monitor set up with two 27 inch monitors, no matter what settings I seem to use, I cannot get around the issue I am having. The issue in question is that during gameplay my monitors seem to do a full refresh every two to three seconds. Best way I can describe it is if you unplug your HDMI cables and plug them back in continuously, only during gameplay. When on the title screen, it is absolutely fine.

I also had to alt+F4 to close the game as not quit buttons worked.

i will definitely be keeping an eye on this one however as I would really love to see what this game has in store with a visual bug fixes. I will try not to let this sway my rating too much as mechanically it is fantastic from what I experienced and have seen.

I am so sorry for the issues, and I am personally ashamed that I shipped something with something this large. What you're describing is a step even more frustrating than the one I've been told exists, and I am so sorry.

Did you by chance get to try making it windowed? (See the top of my game description on how) I have identified a huge problem with my resolution code and have since fixed it (unfortunately I don't think would fix the issue you're talking about) but as this is a game jam I can't push out the fix until after judging.

I greatly appreciate you trying out my game, and I will be committed to getting it fixed post judging for sure. 🙂
